East India company history

Nawab Hyder Ali Khan was known as a nightmare for the East India Company.  He was a distinguished military leader and ruler of the Mysore state in 18th century India.  From a soldier to a de facto ruler, he changed the picture of the Mysorean army by employing modernisation, firearms and well-trained units.  He challenged the British East India Company in the First and Second Anglo-Mysore Wars.  Hyder Ali's military prowess and strategic skill enabled him to resist the British campaigns, causing them heavy losses.  Beyond military endeavors, he supported art, literature and architecture while promoting Mysorean culture.  Hyder Ali's legacy as a skilled military leader and patron of culture remains significant in Indian history.
