History of India

Mughal governors broke the monopoly power of the great Mughals.  The power of the Subedars was broken by the Marathas.  The power of the Marathas was broken by the Afghans, and when they were all fighting against each other, then the British entered and crushed them all and became masters themselves.

A country that was divided not only into Muslims and Hindus, but also into tribes and castes;  A society whose structure was based on a kind of equilibrium created as a result of mutual hatred and legal separations among all its members, was not such a country and such a society created to be conquered by others?
