Shah Jahan's fifth and youngest brother, Shahryar Mirza, was born on 6 January 1605. In the final days of Jahangir's reign, Shahryar, with the support of his stepmother and powerful Begum, Noor Jahan, attempted to regain the throne.
However, there was a conflict over the succession. Shahryar remained emperor for a period from 7 November 1627 to 19 January 1628, residing in Lahore. Like his father, he allowed Nur Jahan to run the affairs of the state and strengthen his rule.
But, Noor Jahan's plans failed. Shahryar was defeated and killed by his brother Khurram (later known as Shah Jahan). If Shahryar had won, he would have been the fifth emperor of the Mughals, but he is not included in this list.
On 2 Jamadial-Awwal, 1037 Hijri (1628), Shah Jahan ascended the throne at Lahore. On the 26th of the same month, 23 January 1628, his brother Garshap, Tahmas and Hoshang, sons of Shahryar and Daniyal, were all put to death by Asaf Khan on his orders.
