#Tipu Sultan Masjid, Calcutta, India. Photograph circa 1896-1900. #Tipu Sultan masjid was built in 1842 by Prince Ghulam Mohammed (1795-1892), the youngest son of Tipu Sultan. An identical mosque, which was earlier built in 1835 by him is at Tollygunge. #Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the South Indian Deccani Kingdom of Mysore, was engaged in a series of wars with the British East India Company, which had sought trade favours from Tipu at first, and later tried to annex his kingdom by military force. After the last war, with Tipu's death on the battlefield and six years after Tipu's death, the entire family was exiled to Calcutta by the British Government. During that period the capital of Mysore Sriranga patnam was captured by British Army. Son of Tipu Sultan, Gholam Mohammed was a child when arrived in Calcutta. He was a man of varied qualities. शेर-ए-मैसूर टीपू सुल्तान

4 मई 1799 का वो दिन था जब शेर-ए-मैसूर टीपू सुल्तान ने अपने वतन की हिफाजत करते हुए अपनी जान की कुर्बानी दे दी थी। अगर टीपू सुल्तान भी चाहते तो निजाम और बाकी रजवाड़ों की तरह अंग्रेजों से संधि कर उनकी तमाम शर्तों और गुलामी को कुबूल करके अपनी रियासत बचा सकते थे लेकिन उन्होंने इस गुलामी से बेहतर शहादत को तरजीह दी। उस वक्त टीपू सुल्तान का नाम अंग्रेजों के लिए खौफ का पैग़ाम था शायद ही हिंदुस्तान के किसी सुल्तान या राजा का इतना ख़ौफ़ अंग्रेजों के दिलो पर रहा होगा टीपू सुल्तान ने उस वक्त अंग्रेजों की नींद हराम कर दी थी जिस वक्त के हिंदुस्तान के ज्यादातर नवाब व राजे रजवाड़े अपनी हुकूमत और वजूद बचाने के लिए अंग्रेज़ों की चौखट पर नाक रगड़ रहे थे। जिस दिन सुल्तान टीपू शहीद हुए थे उस दिन ब्रिटेन में जश्न मनाया गया था जिसमें लंदन के नामवर अदीबों और फनकारों ने शिरकत की थी, अंग्रेज़ों में सुल्तान टीपू का इतना खौफ़ था की उनकी लाश के पास जाने तक की हिम्मत नहीं जुटा पा रहे थे जब एक गोली उनके दाएं सीने में धंस गई तब वो ज़मीन पर गिर गए थे जब अंग्रेजों को किसी ने यक़ीन दिलाया की टीपू मारे गए तब एक सिपाह...
