"The Empire". history of Mughal

 Khanzada Begum (1478 – 1545) was a Timurid princess and the eldest daughter of Umar Sheikh Mirza II, Emir of Fergana.  She was also the elder sister of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire.


 Khanzada was born in Andijan, Fergana, Central Asia.  She was a highly educated woman, and was known for her beauty, intelligence and political acumen.


 In 1500, Khanzada was married to Muhammad Shaybani Khan, Uzbek Khan.  This marriage was arranged as part of Babur's attempt to forge an alliance between the Mughals and the Uzbeks.


 This marriage was not a happy one.  Shaybani was a cruel and merciless ruler, and he often insulted Khanzada.  She gave birth to a son, Khurram Shah, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1509.


 After her divorce, Khanzada returned to her brother's court.  She continued to play an important role in Mughal politics, and was a trusted advisor to Babur.


 In 1530, Babur died, and was succeeded by his son Humayun.  Khanzada continued to serve as a trusted advisor to his nephew.


 Khanzada died in 1545 at the age of 67.  He was buried in his hometown of Andijan.


 Khanzada Begum was a remarkable woman who played an important role in the history of the Mughal Empire.  She was a strong and independent woman who was not afraid to stand up for her beliefs.  She was a loyal and devoted sister, and played an important role in the upbringing of her nephew, Humayun.
