"Johnny Lever is my discovery. When Johnny Lever was selling pans on the streets, one day my manager saw him. And he brought him to me. I used to do stage shows in those days. We also got Johnny to perform on stage. Given a chance. I was the one who gave Johnny his first break. In my film." These things were told by late Tabassum Govil ji in an interview. And the film from which he gave Johnny a break was 'Tum Par Hum Kurban' in 1985. However, this is not Johnny's first released film. Tabassum ji acted in this film. And he himself directed this film. Tabassum ji's son Hoshang Govil ji was the hero in this film. Tabassum says that Lollipop Pradhan, the choreographer of the famous song 'Aati Kya Khandala' from Aamir Khan's film Ghulam, is also her discovery. And singer Sunidhi Chauhan is also in the industry today because of him.
While sharing the story of Sunidhi Chauhan, Tabassum ji said in that interview, “I was doing a show in Delhi. There, Sunidhi asked me for permission to sing on stage. I refused him at that time and told him to go and meet my manager. But she still said. When I went to the washroom, Sunidhi followed me there too. Sunidhi said listen to my song. And immediately started singing. I enjoyed listening to his song. And that day I gave Sunidhi a chance to sing on stage. He also sang very well. I gave my home address to Sunidhi's father and asked him to bring it to Mumbai and cast it in films. A few days later he came to my house. Babul Supriyo also came to my house that day. I told Sunidhi's father that if she continues to sing in my stage shows, she will not have a career. I asked him to go to Kalyanji's office. And said that I have sent you to tell them. What happened then is history.
Tabassum ji is not with us today. But his memories and what he gave to the film industry will remain forever. Kudos to Tabassum ji from Kissa TV. Hundred obeisance. #Tabassum #TabassumGovil #JohnnyLever #sunidhichauhan
