The Battle of Buxar, fought in October 1764, was a major turning point in the history of India. In this war, the English East India Company led by Hector Munro faced the combined forces of the Mughal Empire, the Nawab of Bengal and the Nawab of Awadh.
Although the British were outnumbered, they still won. This was partly due to the inability of the Indian kings to coordinate with each other. This battle ended with the sealing of the Treaty of Allahabad in 1765. This agreement gave a great advantage to the East India Company. They got the right to collect taxes in Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, that is, they could seize the treasury of these areas.
After the Battle of Buxar, there were great changes in India. This battle weakened the Mughal Empire and strengthened the British Empire. The East India Company started usurping India's wealth, causing anger among the people here. Eventually this anger erupted into battles like the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, which challenged British rule.
Overall, the Battle of Buxar was a turning point that changed the fortunes of India. After this, India remained under the rule of the British for about two hundred years.
