Jyo John Mulloor’s AI rendering of the black Taj Mahal, stuff of legend.
The Black Taj Mahal is not a real monument, but a legendary one. The story is that Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, also wanted to create a black marble mausoleum for himself on the other side of the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal.
There is no historical evidence to support this idea, and it is most likely based on the writings of a 17th century French traveler named Jean-Baptiste Tavernier whose accounts are known to include some embellishments.
The idea of a Black Taj Mahal has captured the imagination of many people, and it has been featured in works of fiction, art, and even architectural competitions.
